How do I know if I need dermal fillers?

Feeling down when looking in the mirror is not a great feeling, and it can be difficult to know what you can do about it. It’s likely that dermal fillers can help. We understand that cosmetic treatments aren’t for everyone as there can be a fear of it looking ‘plastic’ or ‘fake’ but here at Cosmetier we make sure to only offer you a treatment or skincare plan that will only restore what you’ve lost, leaving you looking natural and refreshed but with no glaringly obvious change.

So, how can you tell if dermal fillers will help you? Take a look at the diagram below; if you’re noticing an overall sunken, tired, sagging appearance this is a sign dermal fillers can help you.

In your initial free 30-minute video consultation with Dr Sharma, she will assess your facial profile and see where you could use the help of dermal fillers. As your treatment process is a journey, we will treat your face as a whole rather than one area of concern. For example, dermal fillers may be more effective in reducing the appearance of tired eyes when placed firstly into the cheeks rather than the tear trough. In some cases, it can even remove the need for a tear trough treatment altogether leaving you looking naturally refreshed.

The diagrams below are Standardised Aesthetic Scales which would be used during your consultation to determine the severity of your facial volume loss. The more deflated your skin, the more severe your volume loss.

Eyes

Firstly, the eyes and cheeks would be assessed together. As ageing leads to volume loss and tissue laxity in the lower eyelid-cheek junction, the hollows under the eye can become more prominent making you look more tired and possibly causing the dark circles under your eye to become more obvious.

Cheeks

The cheeks are a key supporting structure of your face, particularly when looking around the eyes. As they lose fullness with age, they can start to appear saggy whilst also creating the appearance of tired eyes which all contributes to looking aged.

Just as with the upper cheek, the lower cheek contributes to the overall structure of your face and can age you as you lose elasticity and volume in your skin. If you have lost volume in this area, you are likely to look gaunt and ‘drawn-in’ which can make you appear older than you are.

Jawline & Jowls

The jawline is another key area that can show signs of ageing as it begins to sag. Using dermal fillers to support the jawline, working from the upper jaw down, can not only make you appear younger in the face but also support the neck too.

As you age there are two areas which increase in size: the nasolabial folds and the jowls while the other supporting structures of your face diminish in size. This is why patients often report that the nasolabial folds and jowls look more obvious with time. Coupled with loss of elastin and collagen in your skin, the lower third of your face broadens and may look heavy.

We use the dermal fillers to support and pull your skin softly back so that this heaviness is minimised resulting in you looking more youthful.

Subtle Enhancements

It doesn’t have to be a drastic change, small subtle enhancements restoring where you have lost volume will leave you looking instantly refreshed but still ultimately looking like you, just look at this before & after. A little filler was placed in the cheek to restore what had been lost, resulting in a subtle lifted appearance.
